We are very proud of representing one of the most interesting Michigan wineries, founded by an Upper Peninsula native with Italian origins, Marty Lagina. His vision includes world-class wines from cold resistant noble grapes such as Riesling and Pinot Grigio and the introduction to the area of cool-climate Italian grape varieties like Schioppettino, Teroldego and Nebbiolo. Established in the Old Mission Peninsula AVA north of Traverse city, the vineyards are located on a narrow peninsula, surrounded by water that moderates the very cold temperatures of Michigan’s winters and extends the summer warmth.
The winemaker is Sean O’Keefe, from a pioneering Michigan winemaking family and with more than 20 years of experience after training in Germany. He is dedicated to the introduction of Italian grape varieties to the peninsula and is known for cultivating traditional northern Michigan varieties.
It is the first northern Michigan winery to develop an extensive underground barrel aging caverns with temperature and humidity control and a unique system of temporary greenhouses is used in some parcels of the vineyards to extend the growing season.
